Privacy Policy for Sleep Tracker (SleepRiddle)

Ravi Shankar (“we,” “our,” or “us”) built Sleep Tracker — distributed on the App Store as SleepRiddle (“the app”) — as a freemium iOS app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the app.

The app is designed to be private by default. Your sleep and health data are analyzed on your device and are never sold or used for advertising.

By using the app, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. Information We Collect

Health and Sleep Data (Apple Health / HealthKit)

With your explicit permission, the app reads sleep and related health data from Apple Health (HealthKit), which may include: sleep stages and duration, heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), respiratory rate, and blood oxygen.

  • This data is read-only — we read it to show you insights; we do not write to your Health data.
  • All analysis happens on your device. Your raw Apple Health data is not transmitted to us or any third party in identifiable form, is never sold, and is never used for advertising or marketing.
  • You control this access and can revoke it at any time in the Apple Health app or iOS Settings.

Information You Provide Directly

  • Support requests: If you email us for support, we receive your email address and the contents of your message.
  • Manually logged factors: Any caffeine, alcohol, meal, medication, or other factors you log are stored locally on your device to power your personalized insights.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Anonymous usage analytics: We use TelemetryDeck (a privacy-focused analytics service) to understand which features are used and how the app performs. This data is anonymized/hashed and is not linked to your identity. It does not include your name, email, or your raw Apple Health data.
  • Device information: Anonymous, non-identifying details such as device model, OS version, and app version, for compatibility and debugging.

Information We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not require an account, name, or sign-in.
  • We do not show ads and do not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) or App Tracking Transparency tracking.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites.
  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • Your Apple Health data and your logged factors stay on your device (there is no cloud account or server-side copy).

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide the app’s core functionality — analyzing your sleep and surfacing personalized insights on your device
  • Understand aggregate, anonymous usage patterns to improve the app
  • Diagnose and fix bugs and performance issues
  • Respond to your support requests
  • Manage subscriptions and purchases (via Apple and RevenueCat)

We do not use your information to sell your data, build advertising profiles, or make automated decisions that significantly affect you.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only in these limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: We use the third-party services listed in Section 4 to operate the app. They access only the data necessary to perform their function. Your Apple Health data is not shared with any of them.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, or valid legal process.
  • Business transfers: If this app or business is transferred, anonymized/technical data may transfer as part of that transaction; we will note any material change here.

4. Third-Party Services

The app uses the following third-party services:

Apple Health (HealthKit) data is never sent to any of these services in identifiable form.

5. Data Retention

  • Apple Health data & logged factors: Stored on your device. Removed when you delete the app or clear the data within the app; revoking Health permission stops further access immediately.
  • Anonymous usage analytics: Retained in aggregated/anonymized form per TelemetryDeck’s retention practices; not identifiable to you.
  • Support emails: Retained only as long as needed to resolve your request.

6. Data Security

We take commercially reasonable steps to protect your information:

  • On-device processing of your sleep and health data, minimizing transmission
  • Encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS) for the limited anonymous data we do send
  • Reliance on the iOS security model and Apple Health’s system-level protections

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but the app is designed to keep your most sensitive data on your device.

7. Your Rights

You can, at any time:

  • Access & control your Health data directly in the Apple Health app
  • Delete your in-app data by clearing it in the app or deleting the app
  • Revoke Health access in Apple Health or iOS Settings

  • Lawful basis: your consent (Health access, analytics), and performance of a contract (providing the app and subscriptions)
  • Your rights: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time
  • Complaints: you may lodge a complaint with your local Data Protection Authority
  • Transfers: where anonymized data is processed outside the EEA by our service providers, appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses apply

For California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

  • Right to know, delete, and correct your personal information
  • We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising
  • Non-discrimination: we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights

8. Children’s Privacy

The app is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact ravi@rshankar.com and we will address it promptly.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date above and post the updated policy at this page. Your continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
